Quality & certifications for food additives

Atlas Food Additives, Inc. treats quality, documentation and certifications as core elements of every food additive supply program. Our role is to connect you with reliable producers in China while providing the specifications, COAs and supporting documents needed for industrial audits and regulatory compliance.

On this page you will find an overview of how we manage specifications, testing, certifications (such as available Halal, Kosher, ISO and HACCP-based systems) and documentation for bulk food additives supplied worldwide from China and Turkey.

Specifications

Specification-driven sourcing model

Instead of treating food additives as generic commodities, Atlas Food Additives, Inc. works with detailed specifications aligned with your quality and regulatory needs.

Defining product specifications

Each food additive supplied by Atlas is described by a technical specification agreed with your quality team. A typical specification includes:

  • Chemical identity and purity range.
  • Physical properties (appearance, color, particle size where relevant).
  • Key analytical parameters (assay, loss on drying, pH, solubility, etc.).
  • Microbiological limits appropriate for the application and region.
  • Limits for heavy metals and relevant contaminants.
  • Packaging format, net weight and pallet configuration.
  • Storage conditions and shelf-life / retest dates.

These specifications are based on producer capabilities and typical international standards for food additives, then adapted to match your internal requirements where possible.

Aligning producers with specifications

Atlas cooperates with selected Chinese producers for each food additive or product group. Producers are evaluated and chosen based on:

  • Ability to meet agreed specifications consistently on a batch-to-batch basis.
  • Availability of technical data sheets, COAs and supporting certificates.
  • Capacity to support long-term contracts and repeat orders.
  • Documented quality management practices and traceability systems.

If you require dual-sourcing, Atlas can help qualify additional producers with comparable specifications and performance, helping you reduce supply risk and price volatility.

Documentation

Documentation package for each food additive

Proper documentation is essential for customer audits, regulatory inspections and internal quality systems. Atlas Food Additives, Inc. organizes a consistent document package around every product we supply.

Core documents

  • Certificate of Analysis (COA): issued per batch, showing analytical results against the specification.
  • Technical Data Sheet (TDS): summarizing typical properties, applications and handling recommendations.
  • Product Specification: agreed quality parameters, limits and packaging details.
  • Safety Data Sheet (SDS): where applicable, for safe handling, storage and transport.

These core documents are usually sufficient for internal approvals and routine customer documentation, and are updated when specifications or regulations change.

Supporting declarations

When needed, Atlas can coordinate additional declarations from the producer, such as:

  • Allergen statements.
  • GMO / non-GMO declarations (where applicable).
  • Statements on irradiation, solvents or processing aids.
  • Compliance statements for specific regulations (for example, EU food additive regulations, Codex references or national standards).

You can request these documents at the inquiry stage so they can be included in our offer and in your internal approval process.

Certifications

Halal, Kosher, ISO and HACCP-based systems

Many of the producers we cooperate with operate under quality management and food safety systems that can support international certification requirements.

If you have mandatory certification requirements (for example, all additives must be Halal certified or produced under a recognized GFSI scheme), please mention this in your initial inquiry via our Contact page so we can match you with the most appropriate producers and grades.

Testing

Testing, sampling and incoming quality control

Food additive quality does not stop at production. Atlas works with customers to design sampling plans and incoming quality control procedures that fit their plants.

Sampling and laboratory testing

For new projects or critical additives, customers often conduct their own testing in addition to producer COAs. Atlas supports this by:

  • Coordinating pre-shipment samples for laboratory and pilot plant evaluation.
  • Aligning on analytical methods where necessary (for example, for sweeteners or vitamin assays).
  • Discussing any deviations or questions together with the producer’s technical team.

Incoming quality control

Many of our customers use a risk-based approach to incoming quality control. Atlas can help you define or fine-tune:

  • Sampling frequency and sample sizes by product and supplier.
  • Which parameters to check at incoming inspection vs. rely on COA for.
  • Retention sample policies and shelf-life monitoring.

For guidance on building such a checklist, you can also refer to our Atlas Academy article Quality Control Checklist for Incoming Food Additives.

Regulatory

Supporting regulatory compliance in export markets

Food additives are strictly regulated. Atlas Food Additives, Inc. helps you match your formulations and documentation with the expectations of your target markets.

Understanding local requirements

Each region – Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia or the Americas – may have different positive lists, purity criteria and labelling rules for food additives. Our team helps you verify product status and documentation relative to your target markets, and can point you to relevant Atlas Academy articles for deeper reading.

Documentation for audits and customers

When your customers or auditors request information, we can provide documentation bundles at product or supplier level, including:

  • COAs and specifications for actual batches used.
  • Copies of relevant certificates (where available).
  • Statements and declarations requested by your quality department.

This systematic approach reduces the time you spend on document chasing and supports smoother audits with your own clients and certification bodies.
